One-Time Number or Rental? How to Choose the Right Type
A three-question test to decide whether a single-use number is enough or whether you need a number you keep.
Buying the wrong number type is the most common reason people get locked out of an account later. Ask yourself these three questions before you buy.
1. Will you ever need another code for this account?
Some accounts only ask for a code once, at sign-up. Others ask again when you log in on a new device, reset your password or make a change. If you expect to need codes later, a number you keep is the safer choice.
2. Is the account important?
A throw-away trial account does not need a long-term number. A business account, an account with money in it or one tied to customers does. Losing access to the number can mean losing the account.
3. Do you need to receive messages over days or weeks?
If a platform sends verification codes at unpredictable times, a short one-time number will have expired by then. A rental stays attached to you for the period you pay for.
Quick comparison
- One-time number: cheapest, ideal for a single sign-up, expires after the code arrives or the timer ends.
- Rental number: costs more, but you keep the number for the rental period and can receive repeat codes.
Rule of thumb
If losing the account would cost you money or customers, rent. If it would not, a one-time number is enough. You can see both options inside your Sabiverify dashboard.
